The 21st Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 foot race was held the weekend of 16 and 17 May 2015, and was supported by amateur radio operators for the duration of the 24 hour race.
One hundred twenty of the starting 199 runners actually finished the race. The cut-off time for the race was 36 hours, with the last place finisher coming in at 35:57:42. That’s hours! The first place finisher broke the tape at 19:36:25; he was actually in second place when I clocked him at the 50-mile midway point, Indian Grave Trail station 8.
This race is very well organized and supported, with many volunteer hours required to host such a first class event. Kevin Sayers was race director and volunteer coordinator and Larry Miller KB6VAA coordinated our amateur radio support as well as serving as Net Control along with others.
It was very enjoyable to support this event and witness the outpouring of support by runners for their comrades on the Massanutten Mountain trails.
